VoraciTee

In a world dominated by large sensationalized stories, it has become increasingly difficult for the average person to learn about social injustices occurring around the world. While we are all aware of the well publicized efforts against cancer and the heated debates over environmental sustainability, easily obscured are the equally compelling measures taken to support education in Durham or the efforts of youth in Albania to combat an overly oppressive government, just two examples of our previous campaigns. When hidden from the national consciousness, it becomes harder for nonprofit organizations working to solve these social injustices to generate support in the form of both money and volunteers. Making social action more accessible will be of extreme importance as interest in causes becomes increasingly global in nature.

The market for submission based shirts has grown into a multi-million dollar industry. There exists a large community of designers that actively submits and profits from their designs. Not only does a submission design process guarantee a viable market and community for both the production and consummation of our shirts, it also leads to lower production costs that yield maximized donations to partnering non-profits to the tune of 60% of all profit. The solution to solving lack of awareness and even social apathy is by making the process of being cognizant as easy as wearing a VoraciTee. By allowing community members to submit cause ideas, we can introduce issues that have been largely ignored by traditional forms of media. By promoting user-generated designs, we encourage the design community to actively learn about these specific causes. By partnering with non-profit organization, we raise both awareness and funds for their efforts and most importantly, make it easy for people to access their organization and participate further. With our Education in Durham campaign, 10 students ultimately signed up with the partnering NPO, Student U, to be summer counselors and teachers…and that was only our first cause shirt. Above all, we hope to educate students and residents about the stories behind each cause, so they can purchase a shirt, wear it, and share their knowledge with friends. By doing so, VoraciTee can become the face of social consciousness. Thus, VoraciTee is a student-led, non-profit apparel venture that fuses society’s passion for design with its hunger for social activism.
